DETROIT (WXYZ) — Try crunching numbers with Johnathan! The 12-year-old is very proud of his outstanding math skills and hopes his future forever family will be proud of him, too.

He is currently in foster care awaiting adoption. Right now, he’s in seventh grade.

“I…like doing math for fun. When I have really nothing to do, I’ll just bring out a piece of paper and do math,” explained Johnathan.

He said he’s so good at math, he’s studying on an 11th grade level.

“When I grow up, I want to be an engineer or a mathematics person. I want to be something that helps out the community because I can help out the poor people,” he said.

Being a police officer is also a possibility. He’s certainly focusing on hi studies at the moment.

“I like reading books. I read a lot of different books. And it helps me learn new things about science and stuff,” Johnathan added.

He also enjoys staying active.

“I play sports. I played football, baseball. We’ve developed some new type of sports like ‘punchball’ – baseball mixed with kickball, “ said Johnathan.

“Another hobby that I also have is playing with my family and friends and just being outside,” he said.

The top two places he’d like to visit are Florida and the Caribbean. He likes the idea of relaxing on the beach and relishing warmer temperatures.

He appreciates the opportunity to take care of kittens, dogs, and bunnies. He’s a big animal lover. Maybe he’ll have his own pet one day.

But being part of a family is his ultimate goal.

“What adoption means to me? That people will actually take me into their houses and treat me like I’m part of their family instead of an outcast. But, like, they’re also caring and kind,” he explained.

“I prefer to have a brother that is younger than me and then a sister that is the same age or older,” said Johnathan, but he’s open to other options.

“I just want somebody to adopt me so I actually have a home,” he added.
