Grizzly bear brothers Mike, Thor and Boo got a cool upgrade!
The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) merged three separate bear habitats into one inclusive environment. The transformation more than doubled the space shared by the rescued bear brothers.
The renovated 20,000-square-foot habitat includes a cave, plenty of logs and branches, and new grass and soft surfaces replacing concrete. The climbing wall and six-feet deep pool remains in tact.
“The bears’ view of the world is really going to change now that their habitat has been opened up,” said Scott Carter, DZS chief life sciences officer. “Their space is significantly larger and their ability to sense what’s happening around them is dramatically expanded.
Want to check out the new space? Zoo guests will get the chance at the Sunset at the Zoo "Safari" on Friday, June 8.
