The Ferndale and Hazel Park police departments are getting scruffy for a good cause.

Officers and staff from both cities will participate in "No-Shave November."  It's part of a promotion that encourages facial hair growth in exchange for charitable donations.

The officers will grow their beards and mustaches for a $20 donation to No-Shave. The proceeds will go to cancer research.

"The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose," said Sgt. Baron Brown, Ferndale Police Community Engagement Officer.

Prizes will be given for best and "least best" beard/mustache combo. The prizes have been donated by Local Kitchen and Detroit Grooming Company Barber Shop.
