The Detroit Medical Center says protected health information of more than 1,000 patients has been compromised following a data breach.

Officials note in a press release that the unauthorized access of information at one of their facilities occurred between March 2015 and May 2016.

A staffing agency reportedly had an employee who provided the health information to people who weren't affiliated with the DMC.

"Hospital officials deeply regret this situation has occurred," read the hospital statement in part.

The DMC has sent letters to the 1,529 patients affected. Those patients are also being offered free credit monitoring.
