(WXYZ) — Putting new, age-appropriate, quality books into the hands of children in our communities is what Channel 7's "If you Give a Child a Book" campaign is all about.

On Thursday at Becker Elementary School in Deaborn, the rain wasn't going to slow this event down! Every student there got to take home three new books. Teachers and faculty set up a drive-through book fair where families were able to safely pick up the books that the teachers pre-selected for each student.

All of the books at the drive were a result of the generous contributions from Channel 7 and TV20 employees, viewers, advertisers and the Scripps Howard Foundation.

Thursday's book fair was one of several we've helped put together this year with support from Scholastic Book Fairs. Our campaign raised over $65,000 which helped stock libraries at 17 head start centers across Metro Detroit and provided books to thousands of students throughout our communities.
