(WXYZ) — A Kalamazoo native will make history as the first-ever Special Olympics Michigan athlete to ever run in the Boston Marathon.
Julian Borst, 22, is one of five Special Olympics athletes to qualify for the 123rd running of the Patriot's Day race on April 15.
Borst won gold at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle. Up to that point, Borst had never run a full marathon before, according to a release.
Inspired by his friend Andrew Peterson, Borst set out on a quest to join his friend in the field.
Borst is joined by Special Olympics athletes from California, Washington, Indiana and Pennsylvania.
