National Work Zone Awareness Week kicks off in Michigan

Posted

The Michigan Department of Transportation is warning drivers about the dangers of driving through construction zones.

Last year in Michigan, MDOT says there were 4,908 work zone crashes. 17 people were killed and 75 people were seriously injured.

Monday kicks off National Work Zone Awareness Week  where safety agencies across the nation join forces in an effort to increase awareness about the importance of work zone safety.

This year's theme for National Work Zone Awareness Week is "Work zone safety is in your hands."

You can show your support for NWZAW by wearing orange this Wednesday, April 5. To participate, share a photo on social media of you or your team wearing orange, including the hashtags #Orange4Safety and #NWZAW.

NWZAW became a national event in 2000 as part of the Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) national safety campaign.
