It was the night hackers stole videogame Christmas.

Gamers were unable to log on Thursday after the hacker group Lizard Squad attacked Sony's Playstation Network and Microsoft's Xbox Live. The Playstation Network was still offline Friday.

Many modern video games require an Internet connection to work. That left people who got a Playstation 4 or Xbox One for Christmas out in the cold.

Other hacker groups rallied in support of the gaming networks, with Anonymous  declaring “war” on Lizard Squad. Another group, called Finest Squad, posted on its website what it said is personal information about Lizard Squad’s members.

Bloomberg reports that Lizard Squad may have ties to the Guardians of Peace, the North Korean hacker group that attacked Sony over the release of its film, "The Interview." Lizard Squad previously attacked Sony in early December.

Sony and Microsoft said they are investigating the latest attack and are trying to restore service.
