New bills in Michigan aimed at supporting domestic violence survivors

Posted

Survivors of domestic violence may soon get some much needed support.

The Progressive Women’s Caucus’ Gender Violence Task Force announced Thursday the introduction of a multiple package of bills to address what’s missing in state law to better support survivors of gender and domestic violence in the Great Lakes State.

61-year-old metro Detroiter Anita Posey, a domestic violence survivor and advocate, says it’s about time.

“When you’re a victim it seems like all your rights are taken away," says Posey.

Posey is the founder for B.W.A.R.E., Battered Women’s Awareness Reaching Everyone, Inc.

They are hosting an event Friday for survivors and all are welcome.
