NOAA Weather Radio in Southfield off the air due to communication issue

(WXYZ) — The NOAA weather radio station KEC-63 in Southfield is currently off the air due to a communications issue.

According to a tweet from NWS Detroit, an estimated restoration time is currently unknown.

The cause is still under investigation.

Other options to get alerts are through the Wireless Emergency Alerts, the FEMA app, a third party app or Twitter.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for all of Southeast Michigan until 8 p.m. Wind gusts could go up to 75 miles per hour and tornadoes are possible.
