The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scam phone call reported to authorities.

Deputies say a resident in Springfield Township reported that they received a phone call from someone claiming to be "Captain Watson" from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office "Warrants/Citations Division."

The caller then told the resident he had missed jury duty and owed money.

The resident then contacted the sheriff's office to report the strange nature of the call. Deputies say the resident had no warrants out for their arrest, the name "Captain Watson" and phone number were fictitious. There is also no "Warrants/Citations Division" within the sheriff's office.

If you receive this phone call, notify the sheriff's department.
