AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — "Our Dancing Lights," a popular light show at a home in Auburn Hills, won't return this year after the family said their homeowners association threatened a lawsuit.
The Waldrep family has put on the show at their home on Paramount Lane. People could park, tune into a radio station and the lights were synced up with the songs playing on the station.
As people watched the show, they could also donate The Rainbow Connection, an organization based in Rochester that helps make wishes come true for Michigan kids who have life-threatening medical conditions. It was started by L. Brooks Patterson.
Last year, they say they raised more than $10,000 for Rainbow Connection.
Earlier this month, the family behind Our Dancing Lights said they received a letter from a lawyer representing their homeowners association, that they couldn't do the light show again this year.
On Tuesday, the family announced they would not do the light show in 2019.
"We strongly disagree with our HOA, however we don’t feel spending the time, and money in court is the best solution. Our display is for the enjoyment of everyone. We have decided to not set up Our Dancing Lights this year, however we will still have lights and have added a new decoration in honor of our HOA," the family said on their Facebook page.
They are also accepting donations for Rainbow Connection through the Facebook page and in their donation box in front of the home.
