(WXYZ) — Photos tweeted out by The Mackinac Bridge Authority on Friday showed a waterspout in Lake Michigan off of the bridge.

The photos were taken just after 12 p.m. Friday from the Upper Peninsula side of the bridge.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, a fair-weather waterspout usually forms along a flat base of cumulus clouds that are developing.

"A fair weather waterspout develops on the surface of the water and works its way upward. By the time the funnel is visible, a fair weather waterspout is near maturity. Fair weather waterspouts form in light wind conditions so they normally move very little," the organization wrote.
