The big names gathered at S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center on Monday morning.
Pistons owner Tom Gores, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan all sat on a stage in the middle of the recreation center before a big announcement.
There was a lot of 'big,' but the morning was all about the young and little.
Gores announced a $600,000 pledge over six years to S.A.Y. Detroit. The donation will help increase the efforts with recreation and education at the play center.
The basketball playing surface will be renovated and renamed 'Detroit Pistons Court.'
Mitch Albom, who has driven the efforts at S.A.Y. Detroit, led the event on Monday.
"I privately hoped the Pistons would always be a part of this," Albom said. "It's been a long journey, but a worthwhile one."
Pistons legends Rick Mahorn, Greg Kelser, and former mayor Dave Bing were also on hand.
Current Pistons center Andre Drummond has already signed on to help mentor the kids.
"We hope Andre can help tutor some of the kids in math and science, not just basketball," Palace Sports and Entertainment Vice Chairman Arn Tellem said.
