Project Green Light Detroit is getting an energizing boost.

The partnership between police and private businesses is expanding to incorporate more safety measures.

Currently, about 50 businesses have a green light flashing on their property, signifying high-definition surveillance cameras linked directly to police.

The program will now expand to include enhanced lighting.

The city is partnering with DTE Energy to help businesses install or upgrade their nighttime lighting systems.

Project Green Light began with gas stations, but has now spread to include restaurants, markets, liquor stores and fast food joints.

Partnering with large companies is not new. Earlier this summer, we reported a joint effort with Comcast to help local businesses upgrade their security systems.

We don't know much about this "lighting program" just yet, the city is set to release more information on it later this morning.
