An 18-year-old man from South Lyon is facing charges of assault with intent to murder in a baseball bat attack over $7.
Police say the crime happened at the South Lyon Woods mobile home park last month.
Malachi Collins is accused of bashing a 26-year-old man in the head with a bat, while other people kicked the victim.
Collins initially told police he punched the victim in self-defense, and had lacerations on his knuckles, according to a police report. But then police later found the bat with blood smatterings on it.
The victim was in a medically-induced coma and will have to undergo major reconstructive surgery.
Witnesses say the dispute was over stolen clothing and $7.
Collins will face a judge on Aug. 23 for a pretrial conference in 52-1 District Court.
