A woman whose body was found in a burned out car behind a West Bloomfield elementary school died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Her name is not being released.

Firefighters were called to the rear parking lot of the former Pine Lake Elementary School on West Long Lake Road at 1:25 a.m. on a report of a car on fire.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered the remains of a woman. We're told the remains were fully clothed.  She was shot once.  According to West Bloomfield's Chief of Police, Michael Patton, the medical examiner's office confirmed that information late on Friday.

Officials say they they know who the woman is and are working to notify family.

Police brought two teens into custody during their investigation.  The pair was spotted near a dock around the time of the car fire.

Dive teams then searched the lake for hours on Friday.

The 19 year-old lives in the neighborhood across from Pine Lake Elementary, the 18 year-old was visiting him from Detroit.  Police searched the home as well.

After their interviews, the 19 year-old was released and the 18 year-old will continue to be held, but only on an unrelated felony warrant.  Police said they do not have enough evidence to make an official arrest in the case, but they do still consider both teens persons of interest.

Chief Patton said he is not sure why the victim was targeted, but he does expect more information to be released about her identity this weekend.
