(WXYZ) — Creating jobs is something metro Detroit continues to focus on, as we continue to move our city forward.

But there is a workforce that is lacking in a major way, both in Motown and across the country.

We’re talking skilled tradesmen and women.

Clyde Walker has owned a heating and cooling company in Detroit for many years. Over time he noticed that fewer people are doing what he did.

Right now only 5 percent of Detroiters are skilled in a trade. It happened primarily after vocational training was taken out of the high schools.

So, Clyde started a new business, Walker’s Advanced Technical Training Center. Since the beginning he has been helping put people to work and transform their lives.

The training center has an incredible partnership with Detroit at Work. Together they are focused on moving the city forward and giving of an even greater sense of pride.
