WXYZ — Most of us have a favorite grocery story, but some people are taking the closure of a metro Detroit Kroger especially hard.

In fact, their holding a candlelight vigil and will sing “Amazing Grace” as the Kroger on 23000 Michigan Avenue closes its doors at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The store, dubbed “KrogerJack” because it originally opened in 1995 as the largest Farmer Jack location at the time will close due to financial reasons.

Kroger has said all employees of the store have been offered jobs at other locations. Also, there is a larger Kroger located across Michigan Avenue.

Still the news of the closure has hit home for some residents, and they’ve even created a Facebook event for the vigil.

“I miss my Kroger family already. Lost without my Kroger,” wrote one person on Facebook. “This is said, I don’t think I can see it empty like that. I want to remember all the smiling faces as I shopped for all my families needs in all their usual, perfectly stocked places. Good luck everyone.”

The vigil will start at 4:45 p.m. Candles will be handed out and a moment of silence, accompanied by “Nearer, My God, to Thee” and “Amazing Grace” will be played as the doors close.
