Two kids mowing a lawn on Detroit’s east side called police after finding a grenade.

The Detroit Police Department responded to the area off Binder St. near 7 Mile & Ryan around 8:45 on Thursday night.

Investigators said the two kids threw the grenade after they found it, but it did not detonate.

The bomb squad blocked off much of the area and even evacuated one home. They used the robot to remove the grenade and put it in a secure container.

They don’t know whether it was live or not, but they are treating it like it is.

Investigators said the big take away in this situation is don’t touch anything that looks like an explosive.  Police said they are very thankful no one was injured, especially since the kids threw the device.

"We're extremely thankful that the children are okay in this situation, we've spoken to the parents to reiterate to them, not to touch a device of this magnitude and to call the police immediately,” said Capt. Constance Slappie with the Detroit Police Department.

The bomb squad will dispose of the device at a safe location.
