Detroit fire department warns about fireworks dangers ahead of July 4th

Posted

The Detroit fire department is urging their residents to think twice when using fireworks.

Wednesday they held a demonstration to show how firework shows can go wrong.

In 2017 Cpt. Christopher Dixon says they had two deaths related to fireworks. One man had one explode near his head and another near his chest. Both incidents involved alcohol.

"Each year we call this firework demonstration to get the information out that we want you to read the instructions, that you do not use alcohol with the fireworks that you're not giving them to children unsupervised because this is a very dangerous act," Dixon says.

Some ways to keep you safe are:

  1. Keep an adult present at all times.
  2. Read the instructions before using.
  3. Don’t give firecrackers or sparkler to little kids.
  4. Keep the fireworks away from your home.
  5. Keep a bucket of water handy
