A Detroit mother who lost everything in a fire earlier this month said fire hydrants may be to blame for the destruction.

Three homes were all damaged by the fire, which started at an abandoned home and jumped to the one next door.

Monica Lucero took video with her cell phone showing firefighters standing around looking at the fire. She said they tried their best to put out the fire, but weren't able to do so fast enough due to a lack of water from fire hydrants.

"They were trying to get water but it took them very long, the hydrant wasn't working," she said.

7 Action News reached out to the city, who sent the water department out to check the hydrants on Thursday.

We're told firefighters didn't use the fire hydrant covered in brush next door because it was too dangerous.

The city says all in all, access to water and water pressure did not play a role in the outcome of the fire, adding there were working ones nearby that didn't affect the fire fight.
