An elderly woman’s home was destroyed when a fire ripped thought it. Now, she’s hoping it can be salvaged.
Reverend Lucile Hogan Morris is eighty-two-years-old, has lived in her Detroit home for most of her life and raised her entire family there.
She says there are countless memories in her home and that’s why she wants to stay there.
Morris has been living in the home on Elmhurst in Detroit since 1963.
She says she raised five children and several grandchildren in the home, and until February 23rd – it was the center of all family get-togethers.
She says a fire ripped through her home, luckily no one was inside, but almost everything was destroyed.
The home is now charred and water logged and needs a lot of work. Sadly, Mrs. Morris didn’t have home insurance.
Now, she’s hoping her home could be salvaged – so that it can stay in her family for generations to come.
Right now Mrs. Morris is staying with relatives.
We did contact contractors – who went to the home today. They tell us they can’t even fix the roof because of all of the structural damage.
We are also in contact with the city – to see if there is anything that could be done to help Mrs. Morris.
