An immigration judge in Detroit ruled Tuesday that Yousef Ajin, a resident of Ann Arbor, can remain in the country.

Ajin was arrested and detained at the end of January and faced possible deportation.

He was convicted off two theft related crimes, one in 2001 and a separate incident in 2003.

According to court proceedings, Ajin did not successfully complete his first probation before his second offense occurred.

A Muslim, born in Kuwait with Jordanian citizenship, Ajin is married and the father of four children, all born here in the US. His wife is also a US citizen.

His only son has special needs and Judge David Paruch said separating the family by sending Ajin back to Jordan would cause extreme hardship.

Paruch also said he’s convinced Ajin had learned his lesson from his previous convictions.

The attorney representing the government said there would no appeal of the judge's the decision.

Ajin's release is expected tomorrow morning, according to his attorney. He is being held at the Calhoun County Jail in Battle Creek.
