The 7 Action News team has learned former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick filed an appeal with the US Supreme Court.
The petition for the writ of certiorari was filed with the court Wednesday. It comes after the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit refused to grant a new trial in October 2015.
Kilpatrick was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison in October 2013 after a jury convicted him of racketeering and 23 other federal charges.
