Judge leads walk to end violence after shooting

Posted

A walk for hope in northwest Detroit aims to end violence, one year after a federal judge was shot outside his home.

Judge Terrence Berg says tonight's walk was a way to honor the countless number of people who are shot every year in Detroit.

And what a difference a year makes, as tonight judge berg led the walk for hope in northwest Detroit.

Twelve months ago he was recovering after being shot.

It was March 5th, 2015; Judge Berg was bringing his trash cans in from the curb when two men tried to get inside his house. When he refused, they shot him in the leg.

Tonight people we talked to agree the city of Detroit has made progress, but they say it still needs a lot of work.

Ten months after berg was shot, police arrested 23-year-old Kevin Smith. Investigators say Smith was involved in more than a dozen robberies near Berg's home.
