A Michigan State Police trooper is off the job and suing the agency, accusing them of discrimination, after they found out he was attending AA meetings.
Trooper Craig Tuer could not talk to us, per MSP policy, but his lawyer did.
"The state police treated him like he was tainted goods, when they found out he went to AA," said attorney James Fett.
His attorney says he is not an alcoholic but attended meetings. And in one of those meetings told attendees how troopers would get drunk and drive state vehicles during training sessions.
An attendee broke protocol, went to MSP and spilled the beans.
Tuer admitted he was the source and ended up permanently benched.
Last year the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled MSP violated Tuer's rights. So, now comes the lawsuit.
MSP told us in a statement, "We did not discriminate against him," but declined to discuss specifics - citing pending litigation.
They also said they plan to defend themselves vigorously.
