Detroit officials unveiled a new gas station surveillance plan for city gas station owners to help keep people safe while pumping gas.
The state-of-the-art police monitoring system is being used at eight different gas stations in the city.
We got an inside look at the police command center of Project Greenlight, which includes live video monitoring of gas stations.
It was made possible by gas station owners coming together in the city to help address crimes like carjackings.
The cameras used are HD so police can clearly see what's happening. A list of participating stations will be on the city's website, with other gas stations eventually joining.
Project Greenlight will run in a pilot phase during January and February. During that time, DPD, gas station owners and community groups will determine the best ways to fine-tune the project with a goal to expend it to other gas stations and other businesses by March.
