A retired Detroit Police officer is recovering after being shot in the hip during an attack by a masked gunman.
We're told it happened around 7:30 p.m. on the city's west side near Forrer and Plymouth.
The retired officer pulled over to text his wife when he was attacked by the suspect, according to police. The two reportedly struggled and fought, before the suspect shot the former officer.
We're told his injuries are not critical, and that gunman ran from the scene.
Detroit police canvassed the neighborhood and checked nearby stores for surveillance video.
The suspect was wearing a black hoodie and a white mask at the time of the incident.
