Update: Driver admits to taking Ecstasy before fatal crash in Detroit's Midtown, sources say
Police have arrested a driver they say slammed into four people on Canfield in Midtown.
It happened around 5:20 p.m. in front of Shinola.
Sources tell 7 Action News the driver admitted to taking two ecstasy pills Thursday morning, and they also believe he had alcohol in his system.
Sources went on to say the 42-year-old driver has never had a license in his life, and shouldn't have been on the road in the first place.
We talked to a family member of the driver, who was inside the truck during this accident. He claims they missed a turn down an alley on Canfield, and for some reason crossed the center lane.
Two women and two men were hit, all between the ages of 50-73.
A 73-year old man suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
The driver's family member says he grabbed the gear shift and slammed it into park to stop the car from continuing to coast.
He told us, "I hate when people jump to conclusions about it being drugs or alcohol. Just wait and let the police do their work, and we'll find out later."
Witnesses rushed to the injured until first responders arrived on scene. Others ran over to the truck to stop the driver from running away.
Two victims are in serious condition, and one refused any treatment.
We are told the group had been looking at Tesla vehicles parked on the street for an event.
