New Era Detroit and their volunteers are taking back the streets, each and every night, one neighborhood at a time.

The group tells 7 Action News, they will be out in the area of Wyoming and Fullerton, Monday through Friday for nine hours.

They are targeting school areas before and after the bell rings, also late at night.

Zeek of NED tells us, "We can't just talk about it all the time. We need to do something and we need to be consistent."

They are trying to protect women and children from heinous crimes - such as rapes and abductions.

The group is urging 500 men to join the cause. Some will be on foot, others in cars with a green flashing light.

Volunteers say the goal of this self-funded effort is to cover every neighborhood in the city.
