Thousands of kids will be swarming Belle Isle Park for the 34th annual Metro Detroit Youth Day.
Organizers will offer sports clinics, entertainment and workshops on health, wellness and anti-crime efforts. Kids can learn martial arts, boxing, lacrosse and more on Wednesday.
More than 35,000 kids and 1,600 volunteers are expected at the island park in the Detroit River.
Detroit native Bruce Ross says Youth Day saved his life in 1981 when he was at a "crossroads." He says he saw people of all races showing respect and love to each other. Ross graduated from Pershing High School and Wayne State University.
Youth Day founder Ed Deeb says the event emphasizes fair play and leadership.
