Serial burglar may be hitting Livingston County

Posted

Businesses are sending out a warning about a serial criminal ripping them off one by one.

Investigators from Michigan State Police, Howell Police, Meridian Township Police, and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office are investigating whether the same man is responsible for numerous burglaries.

"I came in to work, walked up to the front door, and it was completely shattered.  It was a moment of panic,” said Leah Jacobs, an employee at Jeff’s Fireworks on Grand River in Howell

She called police, who found the man was long gone from the building with the business’ cash register drawer.

Surveillance videos show him again and again busting in through doors, evading alarm system motion detectors, then stealing a cash register drawer at different businesses.

Workers at Jeff’s Fireworks say the time just before New Year's is a busy one in their business, but fortunately they don’t ever keep a large amount of money in their registers.

The damage to the building is a greater loss for them, than the small amount of cash the burglar may have obtained. They are advising other businesses to take all cash out of their registers, so, if this man targets them, he doesn’t get away with anything valuable.

“We don’t want anyone else to go through what we did, and what the other businesses have gone through,“ said Jacobs.

It is believed the same person also targeted Eternity Brewing on December 23, Blue Fin and El Patron Restaurants on Christmas Eve, and New China King on Christmas.
