EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Eastpointe Police are trying to find the two men behind an armed robbery at a Family Dollar.
The suspects targeted the store on 9 Mile near Kelly Road on New Year’s Eve. This comes after several other armed robberies at fast food restaurants in our area.
The latest incident happened New Year’s Eve around 8:20pm on 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe. Surveillance video shows the two men approaching the store.
The smaller man was acting squirrelly while the larger man seemingly takes the lead.
Deputy Chief Eric Keiser of Eastpointe police explained,“Calm, collected and knew what he was doing. The second suspect the smaller one, very agitated.”
Both were wearing dark colors covering their faces, the larger man with the gun, the smaller suspect with a plastic bag. They demanded cash from the register.
The larger man took the money and put it on the counter, while the other man ran up and down the aisles, keeping a look out.
No customers were in the store, but they left three employees terrified from the ordeal..
“Public is in danger with this and we need to get them locked up.
Eastpointe Police are hoping someone can recognize the two men from the video, especially because they believe the two targeted a Tim Horton’s in Roseville Sunday.
In that case, two men with similar descriptions came in armed with a gun.
“Too many similarities between this and the Tim Horton’s robberies really to ignore.”
Police in Roseville say two armed men with similar descriptions robbed the shop Sunday night around 8:45pm.
One had a gun and the other carried a plastic bag to store the stolen cash.
Roseville police tell us Tim Horton’s was unable to provide them surveillance video, which now makes it harder to catch the crooks.
On Tuesday, we told you about four other armed robberies at fast food restaurants in Metro Detroit. In those cases, the two men got away in a dark colored SUV.
But in the Tim Horton’s and Family Dollar incidents, the men were seen running from the scene.
Eastpointe Police used their K-9 Unit but lost the trace in a nearby neighborhood.
“Making us believe they got into a vehicle.”
Police are hoping neighbors in that area can provide surveillance video as they continue to investigate.
