Deputy injured after drunk driver hits squad car

A Macomb County sheriff's deputy was injured Tuesday evening when a suspected drunk driver hit the deputy's patrol car. 

It happened at approximately 7:15 p.m. on M-53 and 29 Mile Road in Washington Township. The deputy was at the scene of a vehicle crash on the side of the freeway when the side of his patrol car was struck by a woman who was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche.

The 37-year-old woman also had a 12-year-old child in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The woman was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. She faces charges of Operating While Intoxicated, Child Endangerment and Possession of Marijuana.

The sheriff's deputy was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.  

The woman and child were not injured.
