A mom found herself trapped in her car with her two little boys after a crash on I-94. She says she is lucky she was surrounded by heroes.

It happened on Wednesday as she was on her way to take her 3-year-old Miles and 1-year old Mason to the zoo. The crash happened in an instant at highway speeds.

“I thought we aren’t going to make it. We’re going to die,” said Sara Velasco.

Velasco’s car slammed into the median. The first thing she did was look at her sons. They looked scared, but okay. Then she saw smoke.

“I was panicking,” said Velasco. “I was trying to push open my driver’s side door. Then i tried to push the passenger seat but it was crushed.”

She felt helpless, but then driver after driver took action. They protected her car. They used their own vehicles to block traffic. The helped her get her little boys out of the vehicle. There was an E.R. nurse who stopped and checked out her boys.

“I think we were surrounded by guardian angels. I just want to thank everyone who helped us,” said Velasco.
