Police are searching for a man convicted of murder who walked away from a Macomb County group home.

Twenty-year-old Charles Lewis has been missing since Sunday.

Police say Lewis, who is allowed to leave the group home, never showed up at his shift at the McDonald's at 15 Mile and Harper in Clinton Township. He was scheduled to work from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

He was reported missing on Monday.

While he is allowed to leave the facility, he is required to check back in.

Lewis was convicted of murder as a teen in Lansing. He was placed at the group home in a re-integration program after serving his sentence in juvenile facilities.

He is convicted of the gang murder of 19 year-old Shayla Johnson.

Johnson's mother, Lori Black, is questioning the justice system since he was able to just walk away.

"My initial response, how is someone in our justice system and he was supposed to be supervised and my understanding he was in a supervised program, how was he able to just walk out of a facility to go to work. I don't count someone being able to walk out and go to work a supervised thing, I'm a little unnerved about that," said Black.

Police are looking to Lewis and they believe he is headed to the Lansing area.
