Credit card scammers tried targeting a bike shop in Berkley, but were stopped in the act, thanks to a phone call and text alert.

They also could have made one vital mistake.

A victim who did not want to be identified tells us he received an alert on his phone saying that he just charged more than $700 on his credit card at D&D Bicycles in Berkley.

However, he was at a restaurant. He then called the store.

The man told us, "I was completely caught off guard. I knew it wasn't me. I called my wife, and she said it wasn't her."

Store employee Breanna Moore says she received a phone call from the man saying someone used a card with his information, and they could still be inside the building. Moore confronted one of the guys - who left immediately.

The other man drove away in a van with the doors still open.

Berkley Police have been at the store twice since it happened last night.

Moore says, "They said he actually gave his real name. And that he's been charged like 3-4 times before. So this isn't the first time he's done this."

Police are trying to figure out if these guys are connected to other cases in the area.
