A man who was shot by deputies in Pontiac last night, is out of surgery this afternoon.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office tells us the shooting started as a traffic stop, after deputies got a tip about guns inside the car.
During the stop, a man in the backseat got out with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in one hand and a straight clip in the other hand.
A second handgun was found inside the car. Under Sheriff Mike McCabe tells us an independent witness can verify deputies asked the suspect to drop the weapon.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office Special Investigation Unit is conducting the investigation into the shooting.
We're told the deputies followed the man, who jumped a fence.
He turned and pointed the weapon at police.
The sheriff's office says at least one deputy opened fire on the suspect, in self-defense.
The man was shot multiple times, but is expected to be okay.
The deputies involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Three other people inside the car were arrested, including one juvenile. Charges for all four are pending.
The sheriff's office tells us the man who was shot is a convicted felon. It's unclear if he was on parole.
