Who knows the sadness dogs experience when they're surrendered to a shelter when their owner no longer wants them or, for whatever reason, can no longer care for them.
Well, an older St. Bernard that was turned in to Macomb County Animal Control is now getting a lot of love in his new home with the senior citizens at Sunrise of Bloomfield in Bloomfield Hills.
Erica McCarthy and Courtney Chisholm are both with the non-profit known as the Canine Companions Rescue Center, and they pulled the St. Bernard from the shelter in hopes of finding him a new home.
And after some medical care, the dog named "Havoc" found the perfect home at Sunrise where he is getting so much love from the residents that adore him.
And don't let Havoc's name fool you! He's as laid back as they come.
McCarthy and Chisholm are hoping Havoc's story will lead other assisted living centers to consider adopting dogs for their residents.
Sunrise Senior Living believes in the joy and companionship a dog can bring, and they've made dogs and other pets staples at their senior living centers.
About a year ago, the rescue group found the perfect dog, a beagle, for the seniors at Sunrise of Rochester. Their pooch is named "Dasher" and we're told he even knows how to ride the elevator with his new best friends.
