Local churches taught safety at police meeting

Posted

Troy Police held a special security and safety meeting with more 80 members of local churches Tuesday night.

They jammed the Troy Fire Training Center, asking questions about what to look out for and the best ways to stay safe.

Officers offered suggestions on how to spot criminal activity, saying only 10% of actual calls of suspicious behavior turn out to be viable threats or crimes.

This comes on the heels of two incidents of suspicious behavior at two Troy churches, including Faith Lutheran Church. It was thought someone was casing the buildings, but both incidents have since been cleared.

Police also showed a video about surviving an active shooter situation, stressing run, hide, fight.

Police say have a plan, and develop a relationship with law enforcement before an incident happens.
