WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — Ordering food off your cell phone is so convenient these days, high school students are doing it.

However, the principal of West Bloomfield High School is reminding students that it's against building policy to have food delivered during school hours. This comes after up to 15 deliveries a day were being made, causing a disruption to classes.

“It became a huge issue,” said West Bloomfield High School Principal Pat Watson.

He tweeted a reminder to students not to have food delivered during school hours.

“Deliveries are coming all the time, it’s out of hand. Kids are constantly coming down during lunch, sometimes during class time and getting food,” he says.

Students would use apps like GrubHub or UberEats during their lunch hour, but Pat says many times the delivery would run late, with kids leaving class to get the food.

“I think I counted 15 deliveries in one day in an hour and half period," Pat says. "That’s just not okay.”

One day a student ordered $90 worth of food during a lesson.

“She came with bags of food,"Pat said. "She had taken orders from almost all the kids in the class.”

School officials say having food delivered becomes a security issue. Pat believes there are plenty of options in the cafeteria and students won’t go hungry.

“If a kid says, ‘I don’t have a lunch today,’ we will make sure they get that lunch,” he explained. “They just want the food, I get it. I would like to have Panera or Starbucks delivered every day to me. It would be great, but that’s not the reality in the world we live in within a high school.”
