A 7 Action News investigation exposed the epidemic of panhandling in the suburbs. Now, a state lawmaker is looking to stop aggressive beggars in those areas.

Our investigation hit suburban streets all over metro Detroit, showing you a panhandling epidemic sweeping those areas right now.

A court ruling has declared it free speech, but state lawmaker Mike McCready has introduced bills to guard against aggressive begging. He claims giving them money is only making the issue worse.

The bills would stop these men and women from being near a bank entrance or exit, or ATM. They would also crack down on any behavior considered intimidating.

More and more stories are circulating about aggressive actions near grocery stores.

The bills are still in committee. If eventually made law, violators would face a fine.
