A man is hospitalized and robbed after attempting to meet a woman he met on an online dating app.

It happened Wednesday night in Ypsilanti Township, near the intersection of Woodruff Lane and Appleton St.

According to Washtenaw County investigators, the man had been talking to the woman through the online app called meetup.com.

When he planned to meet her, she wasn’t alone.

"When he goes out to meet her, he thinks he's just going to meet her and there ends up being two people in the car,” said Lt. Det. Jim Anuszkiewicz with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim got into the backseat of the SUV and then things took a turn, because he told investigators there was someone hiding behind his row of seats.

"He starts assaulting him from behind and then the drivers gets in the backseat and starts assaulting him,” said Anuszkiewicz.

The man was able to get out, but the pair of men continued to attack him, the took his cell phone and his wallet. The victim ran to a nearby party store and called 911.

He was taken to the hospital but detectives said he is doing ok.

They want to find the other people involved.

The woman’s meetme.com profile picture matches the description of the woman inside the vehicle.

"We have a picture of the girl who was in the vehicle and we are attempting to identify her,” said Anuszkiewicz.

If you know who she might be, call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) SPEAK-UP or call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office confidential tip line at (734) 973-7711.
