"I couldn't believe he was still living," said Patricia Trevino, Director of the River Rouge Animal Shelter, about a horribly emaciated mastiff brought in by their animal control officer Tuesday.
"I never in my life felt something so cold that was still breathing," Trevino told 7 Action News.
We're told it appears the dog had been left to starve on a very hard surface, possibly the floor of a garage or a basement, but an investigation will hopefully determine just what led to the dog being so horribly neglected with pressure sores and bite marks all over his body.
"It's probably one of the worst cases I've seen in a long time," said River Rouge Animal Control Officer Brian Daugherty. "It's heartbreaking."
Daugherty has opened a police investigation into trying to find out who might be responsible for the dog's horrific condition.

Thankfully, Providing for Paws, a non-profit animal rescue group, has taken the dog, now named Tyson, to Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Ann Arbor where we are told he is stable, but still in critical condition.
