Most parents would do anything for their children but one Eastpointe man went too far. Police say he admitted to committing nearly a dozen armed robberies and told investigators, he did it all for his kids.

This week the four month long hunt for an armed robber came to an end with the arrest of 32 year old Mohamed Abdi of Eastpointe. His crime spree allegedly began close to home back in June at an Eastpointe Family Dollar.

Since then Abdi is accused of robbing at least 9 Metro Detroit drug stores at gunpoint from Warren to Lincoln Park, Allen Park and Wayne.

Allegedly using his white Buick Rendezvous as the getaway car, but he didn't get far.

This Wednesday October 18th, police finally caught up with Abdi after he allegedly robbed a St. Clair Shores CVS. He was spotted in his Rendezvous and arrested in Grosse Pointe Woods.

According to the criminal complaint Abdi admitted to the arresting officer he had a loaded gun in the car “because I did something stupid” later telling investigators “he had messed up and he did what he did to feed his twins.”

He also told police he had the gun with him at every robbery but didn't intend to hurt anyone and “never pointed the weapon at anyone.”

Now the man who says he stole for his family likely won’t see his family much moving forward. The case has been turned over to the FBI and Abdi will soon be appearing in federal court.
