People who live in one Romulus community are hustling to get out the word! They say a dance business is about to waltz into and old church and create a nuisance in their neighborhood.
Charles Miller says he currently lives in a house right next to the now closed church at Ozga and St. Aloysius in Romulus. He says it is a quiet and peaceful. He wants it to stay that way. When he learned a dance business wanted to move in to the building so close to his home, he was concerned.
“They could go anywhere. There are plenty of buildings, but to turn a church into a dance hall, it is unconscionable. I don’t know why they would do such a thing,” said Miller.
He says he started doing research about the potential new neighbors and learned Michael and Sallye Ramsey own the EZ Glide Dance Studio on Van Born. The building is being sold, so its occupants are being forced to find a new location. EZ Glide has hosted not only dance classes, but dance parties. Miller fears that would create noise and crowds right next to his house.
“We are a dance studio and we are to be that with different styles of dance, so that people can come in and enjoy themselves and have fun,” said Sallye Ramsey.
She said the new business would be called the Ramsey Manor of Performing Arts. It would be a new business that would not have all the same offerings of EZ Glide. She says she cares about the concerns of neighbors and wants to enhance the neighborhood.
“During a city council meeting they said they are going to have security,” said Miller. “Security for what? How many people are we talking about?”
“Our events would have 50 to 200 people and they would not be causing any problems,” said Ramsey.
The land is zoned residential - so in order for the dance business to open - it would need to get approval from The Romulus Board of Zoning appeals. The issue is on the agenda for the board’s meeting on August 2 at Romulus City Hall.
