Kate Hardy has seen eight lives lost to suicide in the 34 years she has been alive. The closest loss to her, her mother.
Hardy says her mother was full of life and energy, but also went through extreme lows, struggling with Bipolar disorder.
“I’m trying to figure out what she’s thinking," Hardy said while looking at a picture of her mother. "You know what are you thinking about, what was going on at that very moment, was she having a hard day that day."
Hardy was noticeably upset.
After suffering these eight losses, Hardy said there was a need to help those in her same position. She created Six Feet Over, a nonprofit organization aimed at providing financial support to family members suffering a loss because of suicide.
“It’s a different kind of grief in general," Hardy said. "We really just don’t want them to feel alone and have that extra financial burden or have any extra burden that they don’t have to have right now. This is enough; let them grieve."
