A homeowner opened fire after discovering an intruder early this morning, but now there are questions whether or not the shooting was justified.

Taylor police say they just released the homeowner a short while ago, after his initial arrest. This happened on the 8000 block of Oak Street.

It was about 3:00 am that people living inside a home heard noises coming from the detached garage out back.

There was also a security system triggered, so the 31-year-old homeowner then grabbed a registered gun and went to look around.

Police say he shot a suspected intruder in the leg, just after calling 911.

The suspect, a 27-year-old man from Flat Rock, remains in the hospital to undergo surgery.

Apparently, the shooting happened just as the intruder exited that detached garage.

Prosecutors will now decide if charges will be filed.
