In anticipation of the "Revive I-275" project this summer, crews have been taking down dozens of trees along the highway.
MDOT tells us the trees has to go to pave the way for the project that will shut down I-275 between 5 Mile and the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange.
Crews need the area occupied by the trees for equipment access, and the trees have to come down now.
Diane Cross who works for MDOT said they have to take them down now because when summer comes, bats use the trees to nest and they won't be taking any down during the summer.
